Uncut UK Guys
The UK remains established as an uncircumsized nation! In uncut UK only around 15% of UK guys have been circumcised and less than 4% of new born babies now have the procedure.* As gay guys we tend to have an interest in the penis, and most of us have an opinion about whether it is best uncut, cut or if it doesn’t really matter!
Cut or Uncut - UK Poll Results
A recent poll on Mothership’s gay forums (called the Motherboard) showed that 72% preferred an uncut penis with 28% enjoying cut penises more. However results may well be swayed by the the fact that Mothership is a site for the UK and Ireland only, and therefore the participants are more likely to be uncut UK men.
In fact, comments from the same poll showed a lot of UK guys didn’t judge a cock on its cut or uncut status, but said things like “as long as its hard and thrusting, who cares?” and “It depends on the cock really”.
Disadvantages of Circumcision
By contrast, in the USA around 80% of guys are circumcised, so why is it that we remain solidly ‘uncut UK’? In recent times there has been a greater awareness of the disadvantages of circumcision, and a questioning of the medical reasons often given to justify it.
It is true that in some cases there is a pressing medical need for circumcision. Also, some religions demand it. However, in countries like the USA the majority of infant circumcisions are performed customarily because it is said that the practice improves the overall health of that person.
Recent research shows that this is not in fact true, and in fact removing the foreskin can have many detrimental effects. The foreskin contains over 20,000 nerve endings and so the decision to remove it (often, incidentally, made by the parents) should not be taken lightly.
In uncut guys, the movement of the foreskin against the glans during sexual activity creates intense sensations of pleasure, and the uncut foreskin also protects the delicate glans from desensitivation. While ‘cut’ guys who were circumsized as infants do not know any difference, accounts from guys circumsized as adults consistently report a decrease in sensitivity of the penis.
An over-aggressive circumcision can sometimes lead to severe sexual difficulties with painful erections causing stretching of the skin. In some cases the operation has lead to medical complications including septicemia and in rare instances death.
A Clean Cut Case?
It is true that circumsizing can improve the hygiene of the penis, however proper and regular washing can keep any penis clean.
Could it be that the routine practice of circumcision in countries like the USA is born from an unspoken distaste of the unwashed penis? Could collective queasiness toward the possibility of smegma drive a movement that costs millions of guys their foreskins every year? Is the loss of future sexual pleasure for their nation’s manhood not acknowledged or recognised?
Perhaps uncut UK is too ‘cavalier’ in its hands-off attitudes to circumcision? Unlikely. I, for one, am glad that I was born in ‘uncut UK’, with parents who didn’t see fit to remove a precious part of my body, that gives me, and other guys, so much pleasure.
