Mancentral threaten Mothership with legal action over ‘100% free’ claims

Mancentral have threatened Mothership Gay Dating with legal action over remarks made on Mothership about the Mancentral ‘promise‘ over its ‘100% free’ messages.

The ManCentral "promise"

The ManCentral "promise"

In a recent post in the Mothership Blog (which followed a Mothership Gay Forums post made by a Mancentral member) I followed up on questions that were raised about Mancentral’s prominent home page statement that it was ‘100% free’ to contact other members.  In fact only 10 messages can be sent for free in a 24 hour period, after which Mancentral members must pay.

Mancentral’s PR manager Lee Martin emailed Mothership requesting

that you remove this inaccurate and damaging information immediately

Where have all the real gay men gone?

A gay couple from Mothership

A gay couple from Mothership

Those who know me will tell you I’m a mild-mannered, tolerant, patient gay man who looks for the best in people, and would far rather praise than find fault. Well, not for this post. I feel the need to be critical about all those less scrupulous gay men on gay dating sites who variously dub themselves bi-curious, bisexual or in a gay relationship. Spare me from their pussyfooting antics. Give me a gay man, happy and confident in himself, who knows exactly what he wants - anytime. Read the rest of this entry »

Gaydar is a collossus amongst gay dating sites, with a huge membership delivering a lot of choice to gay guys cruising online.  If you’re looking for a shag then, quite simply, Gaydar does what it says on the tin.

If you’re interested in romance, or in making new friends, forget it - Gaydar comes with a reputation - and that reputation is a cruisy one.  The fact of the matter is that Gaydar’s empire - radio station, bar, club, online magazine, charity work, sponsorships and more - has been built on the back of guys looking for sex

The style of the site itself is efficiently geared around this concept.  Who’s Online is the heart and soul of the site - with tens of thousands of guys listed at any one time.  The site appearance is functional rather than exciting, in the brand’s trademark orange and greys.

Gaydar have strived to deliver an enormous amount of information as efficiently as possible, the trouble is that the sheer volume of this information overwhelms the site.  How I long for a picture, or graphic!  Oh, go on!

Whilst they have achieved a great sex-finding site, it is worth pointing out that the best sex requires chemistry between the partners, and no amount of online form filling or fetish tick-boxing can measure this!  Gaydar may be able to deliver shags in quantity, but what about the quality? Coming Soon on Mothership

Captain’s Log 30.08.2009

(Captain’s Log is a message to Mothership’s logged in members roughly every 2 weeks)

Whilst we’re quiet during the traditional August lull it is a good time to look at what’s coming soon on Mothership

Mothership Blog Redesign

At the moment we’re doing quite a lot of work on the Mothership Blog.

If you’ve had a look at it recently you’ll see we have a new colour scheme and format - it looks crisper and more professional, plus it is easier to read too.  We’ll be making further tweaks over the next few days.

The Blog is important to Mothership for a number of reasons - not only does it bring you a lot of information to do with all aspects of gay dating, but it helps recruit new members too!

We’ve included dedicated spaces for advertising - when we fill these the revenue generated helps Mothership to recruit more new members which are our lifeblood.

Mothership Store

This coming week, we’re also refreshing the Mothership Store with some design changes and new products. Our most exciting new product is the blingy, twinky Alick Alexander underwear range which will be available exclusively to the Mothership Store - hopefully by the end of the week - the metallic silver waistband on these briefs is a winner. Ladslads gay networking

Ladslads gay networking

Ladslads has a fresh, clean appearance and offers a youthful site that is very much geared toward gay networking.  The light white and blue palette gives an open, approachable feel to the user, although it feels very bland without the strong cohesive identity of more heavily branded sites like Fitlads or Mothership

Ladslads is very big on encouraging networking - partly through its ‘friend finder’ service (which also acts as an outreach to recruit more members), and by blogging.  One regular user we spoke to said that the younger guys and the older guys didn’t really ‘gel’ that well and tended to keep apart.  He went on to say:

“…the site has no soul, no camaraderie, it’s a shallow, fuck n chuck, look-at-me site”
