Elton John and the Gay Jesus Movement

Elton John

Elton John

In 1966 John Lennon unleashed the fury of evangelical groups for saying The Beatles were “more popular than Jesus”. Elton John achieved the same result without egotism recently when, being interviewed by American magazine Parade he made a remark that he didn’t think would be published ( relating to the persecution of lesbians in the Middle East): “I think Jesus was a compassionate, super-intelligent gay man who understood human problems”. There has been a steady movement for decades among gay Christians towards claiming Jesus as one of their own, of which Elton’s now much-publicised statement is the latest manifestation.

Sir Elton John, globe-bestriding star, singer and composer, firmly established as the gay lord of the music world’s dance, enjoys a model civil partnership with David Furnish, and will long be remembered for his expression of the nation’s deep emotion at the loss of Lady Diana. His immense fundraising efforts for AIDS causes stretching from the early case of Ryan White to his tribute to Wyoming gay murder victim Matthew Shepard, “strung on a high-ridge fence”, evidence his own compassionate nature.

Straight Civil Partnerships, and Gay Marriages?

Gay marriage, or straight civil partnership?

Gay marriage, or straight civil partnership?

There has been a very interesting development with civil partnerships.

A STRAIGHT couple have decided they would like a civil partnership, instead of getting married!  What’s more, they’ve got the balls to do something about it.

The heterosexual couple - Tom Freeman and Katherine Doyle - are going to file an application to have a civil partnership at Islington Register Office.

“We don’t like the institution of marriage. We would much prefer a civil partnership. It is time there was legal equality in both civil marriage and civil partnerships,” said Mr Freeman and Ms Doyle.”

They say that the denial of civil partnerships to straight couples is

“discriminatory and perpetuates legal inequality.”

Peter Tatchell, of human rights group Outrage!, supports the couple, and will be accompanying them when they give notice at Islington Town Hall on 24 November 2009 at 10.30amRead the rest of this entry »

Sam Handley Photos

The Sam Handley photos have caused a stir!

The Sam Handley photos have caused a stir!

You may well have heard of Sam Handley recently - the PE teacher who sensationally got sacked from his private school because he had nude photos published on a gay porn website.

Sam Handley’s story has been splashed all across the mainstream and gay press.  His students stumbled across the Sam Handley photos and links circulated like wildfire on facebook, and before the horny PE teacher knew it he was turning up for lessons at the Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone with some very giggly students!

Sam Handley has now resigned from the school (his position was at the very least awkward) even though he had posed for the pics some years ago, before he started at the school.

But what became of the photos of this very hot PE teacher?  The website concerned has now removed the pics, (he posed under the name ‘Mike’), however you can see some of this archetypal PE teacher’s photos here. YUM! Read the rest of this entry »

Tatchell “Malcolm X was Bisexual. Get Over It.”

LGBT a dirty word for Black History Month?

LGBT a dirty word for Black History Month?

October is Black History Month, and human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell has criticised the Black History Month organisers for not celebrating the sexuality of black heroes such as Malcolm X.

Speaking in the Guardian Tatchell expresses concern that the Black History Month website fails to identify the majority of past black figures who are LGBT, including Malcolm X who Tatchell has identified as bisexual. Tatchell states

“Perhaps it is unintentional but Black History Month sometimes feels like Straight Black History Month. Famous black LGBT people are not acknowledged and celebrated. Either their contribution to black history and culture is ignored or their sexuality is air-brushed out of their biographies.”

Mothership Wins Trademark Battle

Mothership Gay Dating has successfully challenged a trademark application made by Mothership Public Relations.

The PR company applied to the UK Intellectual Property Office (IPO) for the trademark ‘Mothership Public Relations’ back in February 2008, and Mothership Gay Dating founders David Abrehart and Timothy Isaac, who already owned the trademark ‘MOTHERSHIP’, opposed their application.

In their witness evidence Mothership Public Relations argued that our respective businesses were not confusingly similar and therefore their application should succeed.

“Our business is a public relations agency; the opponents…provide an online dating service!”
