Nadine Dorries
Tory MP Nadine Dorries has lashed out at same-sex partners parenting children, despite her so-called ’support’ of civil partnerships and LGBT equality. Speaking in response to the new legislation which allows lesbian couples who conceive through IVF treatment to both be named on the child’s birth certificate, Nadine Dorries told BBC Five Live
“…families who have fathers fare better in society”, adding in her blog
“Kids need dads. They need female and male nurturing and protecting role models.”
But, heaven forbid her pro-gay credentials should be damaged by her ‘traditional family’ views! If you read her blog you can see that that she loves us really: Read the rest of this entry »

Gay Teenage Suicides - Homophobia Killing Our Gay Youth
(Part 2)

A gay teenager in a Mothership tee shirt
In the second part of our look at the high rates of gay teenage suicides we’ll explore what we can do to practically address the problem. Gay teenage suicides run at four times the rate of straight teenage suicides, and if gay teens are kicked out of their home - nine times more.
This is a heartbreaking trajedy, and all of us who have experienced emotional pain in our teenage years (this will be most of us to some extent) will probably empathise.
Spotting Danger Signs of Impending Suicide Attempt
First of all, we need to be aware of the danger signs [1] to look for if a gay teenager may be contemplating suicide: Read the rest of this entry »

Gay Teenage Suicides - Homophobia Killing Our Gay Youth
(Part 1)

Close to a gay utopia? Then why are our gay teenagers killing themselves?
This is 2009. It’s cool to be gay. We’re surrounded by positive gay role models - John Barrowman, Stephen Fry, Ricky Martin; gay TV such as Queer as Folk and Will & Grace; we have civil partnerships and a new Equality Bill on the way. We go to a party and no one gives a f**k that we’re gay. This is it - the gay utopia. We must have arrived, right?
Wrong. Our gay teenagers are killing themselves. Gay teenagers are four times [1] more likely to commit suicide than their straight peers.
Why? Because in 2009 homophobia is still killing our teenagers. The Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has recognised this and made a major donation to a US gay suicide helpline called the Trevor Project.
Gay teenagers see the world from an entirely different perspective than most of us: Read the rest of this entry »

Speedos Banned, Bikinis Allowed - are Alton Towers Sexist?

Skin-tight swimwear like these N2N Renegade trunks are banned at Alton Towers!
Shock! Horror! Alton Towers has banned speedos in all its public areas and pools. Hot dads and fit lads can no longer wear regular swimwear - instead they have to wear those great big baggy things that do NOTHING for a man! Incredibly, the theme park has felt it necessary to stop guys wearing skin-tight swimwear in order to preserve a ‘decent family environment’!
This is despite family-friendly public pools and beaches throughout the UK having no such ban in place! We asked Alton Towers if any specific incident had caused them to implement such a drastic policy. Had guys been walking around with 9 inch boners all weekend? Had a thousand male swimming trunks been disappearing up buttcracks on their douche-like waterslides?
But no, nothing. Instead Alton Towers reasoning was simply
“…the (speedo) style is not deemed public or family friendly, and therefore we are requesting that male swimmers wear more appropriate styles such as boardshorts.”
Alton Towers spokesman Tom told the Mothership Blog that it was the skin-tight nature of the speedo-style swimwear that was inappropriate for a family resort. Oh please! Read the rest of this entry »
