Susan Boyle Has Gays Tuned In as BGT Semi Finals Loom

Matt Lucas flatters Susan Boyle by imitation!
As tomorrow night’s live Britain’s Got Talent semi-finals loom, hot favourite Susan Boyle appears to have strong gay support. Miss Boyle, 48, stunned the nation by her dramatic performance of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Miserables which was aired on ITV on 11 April 2009.

The unlikely heroine’s raw talent, pluckiness and ability to laugh at herself has struck a chord with gay guys from the UK and abroad. Matt Lucas of Little Britain fame said “I thought she was really good”, and promptly paid her the ultimate compliment by dressing up as Miss Boyle, complete with the trademark bushy eyebrows.
Other gay blog comments include “Susan let a bitch take a machete to those things. You know, I kind of miss Susan’s old eyebrows.” Another guy added “Matt Lucas is a British Institution, as I’m sure Susan is well on her way to becoming.”
‘John’ said of her performance “folks, I saw this video numerous times and I still get chocked up watching it. Its stuff like this, that pulls on my heart strings and I just loved it.” On the Mothership gay forums comments ranged from “amazing” to “I want to marry her” (!).

A Gay Affinity
So what is it about Susan Boyle that has made her so popular amongst gay men?
Like many gay men she was badly bullied at school, she was devoted to her mother, and although few gay guys can claim that they’ve “never been kissed” it is likely that we empathise with the loneliness she may have felt without a partner.
On 11 April as she bravely stood on stage in what looked like a charity-shop gold dress the audience and judges mocked her - it seemed the whole world was set against her. Then, after a still moment of silence, we heard the opening bars of “I dreamed a dream”, and her voice sang out like an angel’s.
After her first line a huge roar swelled from the audience, and, in an instant, the nation loved this plain, dowdy woman with the unkempt hair. As people across the UK struggled with their jobs, their mortgages and the consequences of the recession, Susan Boyle’s voice lifted the veil from our everyday lives and showed us a glimpse of beauty.
She reminded us not to judge by appearance. She showed us the courage to face down our fears. We saw how ordinary people can triumph over adversity. Most important, she was the underdog who came out on top. As she hit the high note (fittingly on the word ’shame’, after the way she’d just been laughed at) the audience and even one of the judges Amanda Holden were on their feet in rapturous applause.
Susan Boyle dreamed a dream, and no matter how she performs in the semi-final this weekend, she’s achieved it. She gave the nation a gift on 11 April. Was it beauty, humility, courage? A tear-jerking musical number and a gold dress?
Yes, all of these! But most of all she gave us hope.
That’s why gay guys love her so much.
