Our onboard messaging system has been targeted by spammers recently and I’m sorry if you’ve received their messages on Mothership.
Using our internal messaging system, a handful of spammers have been contacting crew members from fake gay profiles. Their flattering and over-friendly messages aim to take advantage of your good nature. They will quickly seek to get you off Mothership and talking to them through another email address or instant messenger. They are up to no good. Beware.
However not all spammers work this way - ******* decided to set up a fake profile and contact around 80% of our database sending a deceptive message designed to get our members to register on their site. It seems that *******’s marketing tactics know no bounds.
Anyway we are very focused on this problem now, and intend to keep Mothership a spam-free zone. To this end, I’d like your help. We have installed a suspected spam button at the bottom of all incoming messages. If you think that a message is suspicious and might be spam please press it. This copies the message to the bridge where we can check it out. If it is spam we can then nip it in the bud, and stop other crew members being put at risk. Incidentally, when you press the button the sender is NOT informed that you have pressed it, so you don’t need to worry about that.
Spam is a major problem for the gay dating industry, but it can be overcome, so let’s not let spammers spoil Mothership.
Comms
While we were installing the suspected spam button we made a few minor improvements to the Comms system.
The ‘reply’ and ‘delete’ buttons are at the top now, so you don’t need to scroll down to click these anymore. Also the Comms design has been freshened up.
