Mancentral threaten Mothership with legal action over ‘100% free’ claims

Mancentral have threatened Mothership Gay Dating with legal action over remarks made on Mothership about the Mancentral ‘promise‘ over its ‘100% free’ messages.

The ManCentral "promise"

The ManCentral "promise"

In a recent post in the Mothership Blog (which followed a Mothership Gay Forums post made by a Mancentral member) I followed up on questions that were raised about Mancentral’s prominent home page statement that it was ‘100% free’ to contact other members.  In fact only 10 messages can be sent for free in a 24 hour period, after which Mancentral members must pay.

Mancentral’s PR manager Lee Martin emailed Mothership requesting

that you remove this inaccurate and damaging information immediately

and that

We take this matter and your accusations very seriously.

I’ve replied to Mancentral asking which information in particular they considered to be inaccurate and I am still awaiting a response.

You can see the Mothership Gay Forums topic which started it all here, and the blog post here.

Lee Martin’s email in full is reproduced below:

Dear Sirs,

I am contacting you regarding the inaccurate and damaging material that you currently have displayed on your blog and forums.

Please note that we take this matter and your accusations very seriously and have taken a copy of both of these webpages and have passed these onto our solicitors.

We request that you remove this inaccurate and damaging information immediately and inform us that this has been done. The longer it remains published on your site the more damage it does to our business and this will be reflected in any legal action we may take on the advice of our solicitors.

We take this matter and your accusations very seriously.

Regards,

Lee Martin
PR Manager

I look forward to hearing from Mancentral exactly how they justify their statement that it is “100% free” to contact other members on their website.  I shall keep you informed on the Mothership Blog.

Don’t forget on Mothership Gay Dating it really is free to contact other members.  What that means is that Mothership members don’t have to pay a penny to send as many messages as they like to other members.  On Mothership free really does mean free.

what is more worrying is the amount of fake profiles and the stolen pictures people use and claim it to be them , that is a clear breach of the terms and conditions of man central , which your not allowed to mention on the forum on man central , otherwise you’ll get banned , restricted . or not allowed on to the forums , ignorance truly is bliss

and people remember theres no such thing as a free lunch everything has a price EVERYTHING

Hello everyone. I would like to add to this post my own comments. I am currently a user on both ‘mother-ship’ and also ‘mancentral’, I can only speak as I find. As a guest/ basic account holder on the ‘mancentral’ gay dating website, only limited messages are allowed on a daily basis. Many times I find this very irritating because I may have just met someone cute lad and as we get talking my messages daily limit is reached and I am then unable to send any more messages until the following day, I am also not able to read any new MAIL messages once my daily limit has been reached. I would also like to add, ‘mancentral’, have a feature on their website called ’shagable’ where on each profile of a user you can click if you think that person is shagable or not, they then have facility that lets users see which other members find them shagable. However, as I am a basic account holder I am NOT allowed to view which members find me shagable, for me to see this information I MUST upgrade and full member. Mancentral is NOT completely free for users to contact eachother, ‘IF’ that information is indeed on their website then that is totally FALSE. I am speaking as a current 2012 USER on the ‘mancentral’ gay dating website

Man Central is a rubbish site. They envy your far more slick presentation.
I left Man Central after two days, they have very few members.
