Are the gay Harry Potter rumours true?
Take a bunch of attractive teenagers. Throw them together 24/7 in a school in the middle of nowhere. Add plenty of exercise, excitement and danger. Result? Hormones…and lots of them! But has Harry Potter become a gay Harry Potter?
Reading the stories going around the internet right now, you might think so! Plus Daniel Radcliffe himself has said that it’s ‘awesome’ people think he’s gay.
We take a look at some of the gay allegations thrown at Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
Harry Potter and Ron Weasley
How else are you supposed to ride a broomstick?
The allegation: Ron has blossommed into quite the hunk, and despite all the attention from girls only really ‘lights up’ when around Harry. On Harry’s part he is a little effeminate in nature, and overly protective of Ron, for instance by watching after him in the Quiditch try-outs.
There’s more! Apparently when Ron became victim to the love potion although he mooned for Romilda, he was on Harry’s bed at the time! At the quidditch tryouts Ron masculinely rode his broomstick for Harry, and in a triumphant moment held his broomstick pointing up toward Harry like a phallus.
Mothership says: Ron’s a hunk and likes girls. Harry’s his best mate. Broomsticks have to be held between your legs - how else are you supposed to ride them?
Gay Harry Potter factor 2/10
Harry Potter and Professor Slughorn
The allegation: Dumbledore needs information from Professor Slughorn, and sends the young, attractive Potter to seduce him into giving up the information needed. Slughorn dresses in a somewhat dandy manner, and used to hold all-male student get-togethers when he was at Hogwarts years ago.
How it could be for Draco and Harry? Unlikely
Mothership says: Slughorn could be gay, but it isn’t as simple as that. Slughorn is a collector of ‘people’ and Dumbledore sent Harry because he knew Slughorn would want to add the famous Potter to his ‘collection’. A dandy dress sense is not necessarily gay. The all-male student parties are more likely to be due to some latent sexism in Slughorn, rather than gay desire.

Vanishing Closet or Gay Closet?
The allegation: Draco Malfoy has a secret vanishing closet in Hogwarts. The closet is a metaphor for Draco being gay and in the closet.
Mothership says: Draco may be gay, or may not be gay. But in this instance the vanishing closet is simply a closet! You can read things into anything!

Snape Gets Too Close for Comfort
Professor Snape may be gay
The allegation: Professor Snape becomes far too protective and close to Malfoy and his interest in him is quasi-sexual. Also Snape frequently invades Harry’s personal space and thrusts his chest and hips towards him.
Mothership says: Snape had to be protective of Draco due to the unbreakable vow. However, the fact he was prepared to actually take the unbreakable vow for him may or may not show an underlying desire. Snape also does invade Harry’s personal space, and perhaps his body language in thrusting his chest and hips forward shows a deeper sexual energy. Snape is unmarried and never shows any interest in women.

The allegation: Dumbledore is an old queen.
Mothership says: Dumbledore is an old queen.

Daniel Radcliffe
This is what Daniel Radcliffe said recently about people thinking he may be gay:
“It’s wonderful. I grew up around gay people my entire life, basically, that’s possibly why I’m quite camp, and some people think I’m gay when I meet them, which I think is awesome.”
That’s the way to do it Daniel - take note Jason Donovan!
