Fitlads, Ladslads, Gaydar…or Mothership?

Fitlads, Ladslads, Gaydar…it can be hard to know where to start when you’re looking for a gay dating site in the UK. One thing is for sure, the UK gay dating market is highly competitive and each site wants you logged in and chatting, dating and hopefully spending money with them.
Consumer is king, don’t forget that, so let’s take a closer look:
Fitlads
Fitlads has been around for about 6 years now. Based in Scotland, Fitlads’ formula is essentially young, white and chavvy mixed in with hard attitude. Fall outside this stereotype and you may struggle to fit in - that doesn’t stop a lot of older guys joining however.
Fitlads’ free and paid memberships are both reasonable - £45 for a year – but watch out for their site popularity. Don’t believe the online figures – the number of guys using Fitlads has been in decline since July 2008. An internet DOS attack last year proved costly for them.
Don’t get excited about Fitlads TV either – it’s just a skin of the homoactive porn site.
Ladslads
Ladslads is a young site – just 3 years old, and has taken Fitlads on at its own game with a more sophisticated dating and networking model also geared toward young gay guys. Ladslads quickly shot into prominence in the UK gay dating industry.
However, Ladslads has suffered a marked decline in visitor numbers in the last 4 months. Negative publicity from practices like charging guys to delete their accounts has not helped them.
In short Ladslads offers a broader appeal than Fitlads, especially if you’re young, however watch out for their free memberships. In order to read messages, free members are forced to give them the passwords to their personal email accounts so Ladslads can have access to their private email contacts.
Also never believe the online figures given on the Ladslads home page which are highly exaggerated.
Gaydar
Gaydar is the grand-daddy of all gay dating sites. Launched in 1999 it has grown into a huge, if bland site. Mostly suited to hook-ups Gaydar effectively delivers its dating service, although the sheer size and complexity of the site can be confusing.
Gaydar is not cheap and this may explain a big drop in visitor numbers in the last year. Basic membership costs £60 a year, and free members have more restrictions than a straight jacket factory.
Mothership
Mothership Gay Dating is a totally unique type of gay dating site offering a dating/hookup and networking service all in one purpose-built site.
