As gay guys we like to impress other men when we’re dating, and appearing cheap just isn’t an option. We may be tightening our belts in the credit crunch, but cheap gay dating doesn’t mean our love life needs to suffer!
Here are some ways to save money in your gay dating, without looking cheap:
Local cabaret, not West End theatre!
Even if you bag discounted tickets, a night at the theatre for 2 can easily set you back £80 by the time you’ve added travelling and interval drinks. Instead why not take him to a drag cabaret at a local gay venue? It will work out much cheaper, and you’ll probably both laugh a lot more which relaxes you and makes it easier to be intimate later.
Picnic in the park, not candlelit restaurant!
With summer around the corner a picnic be very appealing. It’s original, relaxing and much more inexpensive than £70 blown on 3 courses for 2. For extra romance bring a candle in a jar and a bottle of chilled wine. Trust me, the night will still be very young by the time you pack up the tartan blanket!
Take a trip in the love boat
There are numerous places you can cheaply hire rowing boats in the UK and Ireland, including in London (Richmond). It doesn’t cost much and chatting as you trail your fingers in the cool water is very seductive. When your hour is up find a nice waterside pub for a pint and some value for money grub.
Vouchers are NOT sexy
Never, ever, ever use vouchers on a date. There is no bigger turn off than seeing a man using discount vouchers - and that applies to gay guys too. You may be on a budget, but your date won’t be aroused when he sees you prissily fiddling around in your manbag for the vouchers you cut out of a magazine - not a hot look! Sometimes it is better to save face than save money!
Use a cheap gay dating site
Most gay dating sites offer a free membership tier but be careful it really is free, and that you don’t have to disclose your private email contacts for instance, or have a limited number of messages you can send or read.
