As gay guys we’ve all seen the idolised image of the penis countless times – big, thick, a juicy fat helmet and always straight as an arrow! In fact penises come in all shapes and sizes and having a curved penis is extremely common.
The shape of a nicely curved penis can be very attractive, so don’t let it put you off dating other guys! Something about the way the penis is forced into a curved shape when standing proud gives it a strong character of its own. Yum!
Penises can curve in any direction – up, down, left or right and the curve can be gentle or there can be more of a bend. It is also common for penises to have a twist.
Just How Common is a Curved Penis?
Most penises have some degree of curvature – so if yours is curved you are in the majority! Naturally curving healthy penises can have a very slight to a very pronounced curvature, and even up to a 30-45 degree curve is still considered normal.1
Medical Conditions that can Cause a Curved Penis
Whilst the majority of curved penises are completely healthy, there are some medical conditions that can cause a bend in the penis and may require treatment:
Peyronie’s Disease 2 causes scar tissue to grow on the penis and about 1/3 of the time this can cause the penis to bend. You’ll need to get this checked out. Very rare for guys under 40. Can be sorted with surgery, or left alone.
Hypospadias is a birth disorder where the urethra exits from the wrong place on the penis and this can also result in a curvature. Most often this is sorted by surgery.
Chordee 3 – this is a congenital abnormality when the glans of the penis points downwards or upwards from the shaft of the penis and is particularly noticeable when the cock is hard. This is often linked to hypospadias, but not always and normally an operation in infancy sorts it.
A circumcision which has been too aggressive and has removed too much foreskin can result in a curve to the penis when erect simply because there isn’t enough skin left to allow the penis to stand proud. If you’re circumcised and your skin is stretching painfully to accommodate your erection go to see the doctor.
A penile fracture is the result of injury to the penis, often through too vigorous sex, and can leave a bend in the shaft. Get immediate medical attention (you’ll probably want to!)
Urethral stricture – a narrowing of the urethra due to several reasons can cause the penis to curve on erection.
Excessively Curved Penis
If your penis curves excessively – over 45 degrees or to any extent that causes you difficulty or pain when having sex with your partner, then go and get medical advice.

If you don’t have a medical condition causing the curve in your penis, and it does not physically affect your sexual relations, then you have nothing to worry about!
