ManCentral lies
One of Mothership Gay Dating’s members has recently complained about ManCentral on our Gay Forums.
Basically he is saying that Man Central promise that they are 100% free to contact other members, but when he tried to send message to other members he was prevented from sending any more than 10 messages unless he paid to upgrade his membership.
What Man Central promise
On the Man Central home page they state “100% FREE TO CONTACT OTHER MEMBERS” in capital letters in two places, one of them directly above their sign up box.
What Man Central deliver
Man Central allow 10 free messages a day. After that you must pay to upgrade to a higher membership tier in order to continue to send messages.
Are Man Central 100% Free to Contact Other Members?
No.
How Can ManCentral Get Away With This?
By being disingenous in their wording. ManCentral may argue that ten messages a day are 100% free to send, in that they cost you nothing.
However, this is entirely different from the meaning that would be more commonly understood by the phrase “100% FREE TO CONTACT OTHER MEMBERS”. Most gay guys would read that as meaning that it in 100% of circumstances that you may wish to contact other members, it shall be free. This of course is not the case.
100% Free
We can dig down a little deeper. Let’s for a moment imagine that Man Central’s interpretation of the message is that it is the 10 messages a day that you are allowed to send without paying that are 100% free.
However, this doesn’t stand up. The phrase ‘100% free’ is meaningless. Free is free. There is no point in saying 100% free. It is entirely superfluous to add the adjective ‘100%’ to the word ‘free’.
From a grammatical view therefore, the descriptor ‘100%’ can only refer to the circumstances in which a member may wish to contact another member. It is 100% of the circumstances in which a member may wish to contact another member, that it is free to do so.
But this is not the case!
The ManCentral "promise"
ManCentral are telling an untruth, and deceiving their members by making a disingenous promise designed to hoodwink them into signing up for a service they would have been less likely to sign up to if they’d known the truth. Ultimately their home page lies disrespect and insult their own members!
